The new European report on the video game industry has been published
Video Games Europe and EGDF (European Games Developer Federation) have published All About Video Games – European Key Facts 2025, the annual report that provides an overview of the European video games market, analyzing its economic size, audience characteristics, and employment.
This year's edition expands the data collection to 16 European markets, with the aim of providing a more complete picture of the industry and player habits.
The results confirm the significant role of video games in the digital economy and in the daily lives of millions of people.
The numbers of the European video games industry
The report presents several interesting data to understand the size of the sector:
€29.7 billion in revenues in the 16 markets analyzed.
199 million gamers, equivalent to 51% of the European population between 6 and 75 years old.
123,000 people employed in the video game industry in the European Union and the United Kingdom.
8,700 development studios present in Europe.
46% of gamers are women, confirming an increasingly diverse audience.
77% of gamers are adults, demonstrating how gaming now involves different generations.
82% of gamers use mobile devices to play.
91% of revenues come from digital, while physical formats represent the remaining 9%.
These data reveal a broad and diverse sector, encompassing not only major international publishers but also independent studios, developers, and numerous specialized professionals.
An increasingly digital market
One aspect highlighted by the report is the centrality of digital distribution.
The spread of smartphones, tablets, consoles, and PCs has expanded access to video games, changing the way content is distributed and consumed.
Furthermore, audiences are no longer limited to a single age group: video games have become a cross-section of entertainment, capable of engaging people with diverse interests and habits.
This evolution is also reflected in the work of development studios, which are required to compete with different platforms, new technologies, and an increasingly competitive international market.
Challenges and Future Prospects
In addition to economic and demographic data, the report addresses issues related to online safety, the protection of minors, and the evolution of the PEGI system, the European age rating system for video games.
The growth of the industry brings with it new responsibilities: ensuring safe gaming experiences, promoting informed use of platforms, and meeting the expectations of an increasingly wider audience.
The report is therefore a useful tool for understanding the state of the sector and its transformations.
The data collected offers an overview of the economic and social importance of video games in Europe, as well as highlighting the size of an ecosystem that connects technology, creativity, and innovation.
