Epic AI MegaJam 2026: developing video games with artificial intelligence
From November 12 to 15, 2026, theEpic AI MegaJamreturns, the game jam promoted by Epic Games that invites developers, 3D artists, game designers, and students to create a video game in just four days, using Unreal Engine or Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN).
The initiative aims to explore the opportunities offered by artificial intelligence in video game development, encouraging participants to experiment with new tools and working methodologies. The goal is to transform an idea into a functioning interactive experience, testing creativity, technical skills, and collaboration.
Artificial intelligence and new development workflows
One of the main features of the Epic AI MegaJam 2026 is the possibility of integrating artificial intelligence agents into the production process.
Participants can register individually or form teams of up to five people @#, with the possibility of using an unlimited number of AI agents.
These tools can support various activities, from programming to content generation, to prototyping and the automation of repetitive tasks. For those working with Unreal Engine, it represents an opportunity to experiment with how AI can support the work of developers, 3D artists, and Technical Artists, helping to speed up some phases of production.
The use of artificial intelligence, however, does not eliminate the need for technical and design skills.
Correctly integrating the tools, verifying the generated code, and optimizing performance remain fundamental steps for creating a functioning, quality product.
Cash prizes and funding for the best projects
The competition includes several categories, dedicated to projects developed with Unreal Engine, UEFN, and student participation. For each of these main categories, there are prizes of $7,500 for first place, $5,000 for second place, and $2,500 for third place.
There are also special categories that recognize aspects such as visual quality, individual work, collaboration, and specific project types.
Among the most interesting opportunities are the Development Continuation Grants, funding of up to $50,000 for selected projects to continue development even after the game jam has concluded.
An important opportunity for those who wish to transform a prototype created during the competition into a more structured project.
The program and dates to remember
The event will officially begin with a live broadcast on November 11, during which the theme of the competition will be announced.
Participants will then have four days, from November 12th to 15th, to develop and deliver their games.
Participation will be primarily online, with the possibility of also taking part in initiatives organized by the local Unreal Engine and UEFN communities.
An in-person event is also planned in San Francisco at Digital Jungle, on November 14th and 15th, with limited space.
To prepare, Epic is providing resources dedicated to artificial intelligence tools and the Model Context Protocol (MCP), a standard that allows compatible AI systems to interact with external tools and contexts through defined interfaces. Learning about these technologies ahead of time can help participants better organize their workflow and make the most of their available time.
