EU 5.7: over 280 automotive Substrate materials available for free on Fab

With Unreal Engine 5.7, Substrate marks a major step forward in materials management. To showcase its potential in a real-world context, Automotive Substrate Materials is coming to Fab, a free package designed for automotive visualization but also useful in gaming.

More than a simple collection, it is a production-ready base, designed to guarantee consistent results with both Lumen and Path Tracing, maintaining a physically accurate approach.

A large and immediately usable library

The package includes over 280 materials covering the most common surfaces of a vehicle, from paint and metal to glass and plastic. Each material is built for a specific use, making it immediately applicable in production.

Also supporting it are:

  • configuration assets to speed up setup

  • configuration assets to speed up setup

  • dedicated maps for exploration and look development

This approach makes it not only comprehensive, but also practical to integrate into a real workflow.

Substrate at the center and materials based on real data

The key point is the complete use of Substrate, which allows for a more natural management of layering and light behavior, making effects that previously required complex solutions accessible, such as:

  • multi-layer paints

  • advanced translucent materials

  • anisotropy and subtle interferences

  • imperfections such as scratches and fingerprints

Materials are based on real measurements and lab tests, offering reliable and consistent parameters. For metals, a Blueprint tool is included that allows you to select and compare presets based on measured data, maintaining consistency across different assets.

All elements are built on a shared modular structure, which manages color, roughness, anisotropy and imperfections. This system reduces duplication, facilitates modifications and allows you to extend materials easily, proving useful for both automotive configurators and more complex video game productions.

A calibrated environment and a versatile resource

The package also includes a scene with lighting calibrated using real-world measurements and photogrammetry, ideal for testing materials under controlled conditions and obtaining consistent results with both Lumen and Path Tracing.

Although developed for the automotive industry, the package represents a valuable resource for anyone who wants to work with physically accurate materials in Unreal Engine 5.7. More than just a free library, it is a concrete example of the direction the engine is taking.
