The GMTK Game Jam is back!
The GMTK Game Jam is back! Game Maker's Toolkit, or GMTK for short, is a YouTube channel dedicated to video game design. Since 2017, it has organized annual game jams, marathons during which participants -tipically programmers, game designers, and artists- must create a video game from scratch, following a specific theme, within a timefrime tipically ranging from 24 to 72 hours.
Some examples of past GMTK Game Jam themes include: "Built to Scale" in 2024; "Roles Reversed" in 2023; and "Roll of the Dice" in 2022.
The 2025 edition of the marathon will begin on July 30th, 2025, starting together with the announcement of this year's theme, and will last until August 3rd, 2025; everything will happen online, on the itch.io website, where the games can also be published.
Some game jams have also spawned some now-famous games: for example, Hollow Knight, whose concept was born during the Ludum Dare Game Jam in 2013; and Baba Is You, whose demo was created in 2017 during the Nordic Game Jam.
