Have you ever thought that the atmosphere of your Unreal Engine projects could tell a story? That it could become another tool of narrative language? The answer is often in the air.
The Sky Atmosphere is one of the most powerful, yet least understood, systems in the engine. It's an excellent tool for defining the visual identity of a world, allowing you to go from a realistic midday sky to the suffocating density of a radioactive wasteland.
This isn't a typical theoretical lesson. It's an intensive, hands-on workshop where we'll leave the default settings aside to understand the physics of light and learn to manipulate it according to our creative vision.
BY FOLLOWING THIS COURSE YOU WILL BE ABLE TO:
Stop relying on chance: exactly how Sky Atmosphere works and which parameters to adjust to get the specific sky tone you have in mind. Tell stories through light: you will learn that atmosphere is not just weather, but a narrative tool to convey peace, danger, safety, fear.
Storytelling through light: Scoprirai che l'atmosfera non è solo "clima", ma un'opera narrativa con la quale trasmetti pace, pericolo, sicurezza....
Adapt the workflow of your scenes: you will find a working methodology that will allow you to generate custom atmosphere libraries for any type of project.
Transform a generic scene into something more, mastering one of the most precious actors of Unreal Engine.
ARE THERE ANY REQUIREMENTS OR PREREQUISITES FOR THE COURSE?
Since we'll be working with Sky Atmosphere and likely Lumen (UE5's dynamic lighting), it's best if your computer meets the following requirements (at least the minimum requirements).
Recommended:
GPU: NVIDIA RTX 3060 or better.
GB. Important note: 32 GB first (Unreal Engine consumes memory quickly when compiling shaders and textures).
Minimum:
GPU: DirectX 12 compatible card (8 GB VRAM minimum).
RAM: 16 GB.
note: Before the lesson, you will be provided with a zip file containing the basic project. We recommend downloading it, unzipping it, and opening it on your computer at least 15 minutes before the lesson to ensure it is compiled.
TO WHOM THIS COURSE IS ADDRESSED:
This session is designed for creative and technical professionals who want to express themselves through the atmosphere of their projects. It is particularly suitable for:
Lighting Artists & Environment Artists: Those who want to master the Sky Atmosphere component to stop relying on static HDRI images and start creating dynamic, physical, and fully customizable skies.
LookDev and Compositing Artists: Interested in understanding how light diffusion and absorption affect the color and depth of objects in large scenes.
Directors of Photography and Virtual Cinematographers: Those who need to recreate specific atmospheres with precision and control.
Unreal Engine Users: Those who are familiar with the basic interface and want to professionalize the visual appearance of their projects.
In short: If you feel like your skies always look the same or you can't get that atmospheric density you see in movies, this course is for you. Here you'll learn to master the atmosphere of your scenes.
THE PROGRAM
La sessione è suddivisa in due blocchi pensati per guidarvi immediatamente dal "cosa" al "come":
1. The DNA of the Atmosphere (Applied Theory)
Before moving the sliders, we'll understand what happens behind the scenes. We'll analyze the most important parameters and understand what real-world characteristics they're trying to reproduce. Understanding what each of them does will help us understand what we need to change to achieve a specific effect.
2. Practical Lab (Live Practice)
We'll work on the same project simultaneously. Step by step, we'll recreate different atmospheres, so by the end of the lesson you'll have not only technical knowledge, but also a set of atmospheres you can apply to your own projects.
