Italy is preparing to welcome an icon of world animation: Carlos Grangel, the legendary character designer who, together with his brother Jordi, shaped the unforgettable characters of "Corpse Bride", "Pinocchio by Guillermo del Toro", "Hotel Transylvania", "Madagascar", "How to Train Your Dragon" and other iconic animated films, will be the protagonist of the EXTRA TOUR, an unprecedented format created by Artis and co-produced by IED Florence.
From May 21st to 29th, this extraordinary tour will touch the creative capitals of Italian animation – Florence, Verona, Milan and Rome – bringing the experience of an internationally renowned master directly to students, professionals and enthusiasts. EXTRA is not just an event, but a real immersive journey into the art of character design and the magic of animated cinema.
The tour will open on May 21st in Florence with an exclusive event: a life drawing session that will see Carlos Grangel draw live in the historic Palazzo Vecchio, sharing his art with a select audience of students and animation professionals. The following day, May 22nd, IED Florence will host an exclusive masterclass for the students of its innovative "Illustration" course.

The creative journey will continue in Verona on May 24th with a masterclass in collaboration with Istituto di Design Palladio at Spazio 311.
Rome will welcome Grangel on May 28th in the evocative Casa del Cinema in Villa Borghese for a masterclass open to the public in collaboration with ACCA Academy. The grand finale will be held in Florence on May 29th with an unmissable talk at Cinema La Compagnia, which will see the participation of important Italian animation studios such as DogHead Animation, Cartobaleno, Panebarco and Nora Studio. But EXTRA TOUR goes beyond training: the project aims to connect the exceptional Italian talent with the giants of global animation.
DogHead Animation will open the doors of its prestigious Florentine studio to Carlos Grangel on May 23rd for a meeting with the artists who created hits such as “Strappare lungo i bordi” and “Questo mondo non mi rendere cattivo” by Zerocalcare for Netflix and "Merry Little Batman” for Warner Bros.. In Milan, on May 26th, the dynamic production studio of “Spirit Rangers season 2”, an original Netflix production, “Piripenguins”, co-produced with Eaglet Film for RAI and BBC, “Underdog”, co-produced with Superprod Animation for RAI and Gulli/M6, Lego Friends – The Next Chapter”, produced by Passion Pictures Paris, will be the guest of Movimenti Production and Red Monk Studio.
A special tribute to the twentieth anniversary of “Corpse Bride” will be represented by exclusive screenings of the cult film, offering the public the exciting opportunity to meet Carlos Grangel in the theater for a signing session and listen to anecdotes and curiosities about the genesis of the film in his presentation before the screening. The activities will be held on May 21st at the Cinema Giunti/Odeon in Florence, where illustrator Gianluca Folì, author of the illustration of the event poster, will be present, on May 25th at the Cinema Anteo City Life in Milan, on May 27th at the Casa del Cinema in Rome and on May 29th at the Cinema Italia in Pontassieve (FI).
