End of an era: The latest offline version of Quixel Mixer is available

Quixel has announced the release of the final offline version of Mixer, officially marking the end of development of the historic texturing software used by 3D artists and visualization studios around the world.

This release represents the last official version of the program: no further updates or new features are planned.
This choice closes an important chapter for many professionals who have used Mixer over the years for the creation of PBR materials and textures.

A version designed to last over time

The new offline version allows users to continue using Mixer without depending on online services.
During installation you will be able to download over 800 free assets, including materials and surfaces that can be used directly in your projects.

This is especially useful for those who want to maintain a stable pipeline or archive a working work environment well into the future.

What happens to Megascans assets

Users will not lose content already captured: Megascans libraries will remain available via the FAB website

Quixel also confirmed that any future changes will be communicated in advance.

The historical role of Mixer

Mixer has been one of the most accessible tools for layer-based material blending for years, allowing artists to combine photogrammetric surfaces and custom textures with a non-destructive workflow.

Its integration with Megascans has helped make it a benchmark for:

  • Archviz

  • Game development

  • VFX

  • Product visualization

A natural transition in the industry

The end of Mixer's development reflects the evolution of the 3D material tools industry, which is increasingly oriented towards integrated pipelines and real-time workflows.

Despite the project's conclusion, the availability of an offline version ensures users will be able to continue using Mixer for years to come.
