Shortlist Visual Effects VFX - David di Donatello 70°

The exclusive event organized by the visual effects association (AVFX) took place today in Rome at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia to explore and celebrate the innovative contribution of visual effects in Italian cinema.

All the VFX Supervisors and VFX Producers of the 15 titles shortlisted for the 70th David di Donatello were invited.

The awarding of "technical" categories is a major innovation introduced in the regulations of the prestigious Italian film award, in fact on February 6, 2025, the Italian Cinema Academy made public the shortlists, the result of the reports of all the specialized jurors.

During the morning, the supervisors and VFX producers of the competing titles showed a reel of the works and described the various challenges faced.

The topics ranged from the reconstruction of cities, the creation of crowds, virtual production, set extension and creation of creatures.

The incredible increase in quality compared to last year and the impact of new technologies, mainly driven by AI and how art, chaos and passion can create products capable of making a difference were also discussed.

The discussion on community and teamwork to make the Italian visual effects market emerge was also relevant.

We just have to wait to see which of these titles will make it into the final five and from which the winner of this edition of the David di Donatello 2025 for visual effects will be decided.
